So basically she’s under house arrest, which is an actual punishment for an actual crime, because she might fall into bed with/get raped by a stranger out in the world?

…….right. Okay.

Pretty much.

Also, just want to point out this isn’t unique to the UK. Most US states give courts the power to appoint guardians for adults with certain “disabilities”. Becoming a ward of the state due to mental incapacity = the immediate destruction of every right the ward ever had, beginning with their ability to consent to ANYTHING.

The US has gotten a bit better about what guardianship means. But, you know, there’s still all those state statutory rape laws that define adults with mental “disorders” as legal minors when it comes to sex. 

This does not mitigate how awful H’s plight is, in any way. It just seems like a good time to point out that when people with autism (and other neurodivergencies) talk about ableism, we’re not complaining about asshole trolls on the Internet. We’re complaining about active, legalized discrimination.
