Yeah. Pretty much. It’s hard to respect someone’s belief when it equates you suffering for eternity .. hahahaha.

why are religious beliefs ALWAYS equated to religious beliefs that send people to hell?
it’s not as simple as “racist beliefs” or “homophobic beliefs” which specifically apply to beliefs of an oppressive nature, so don’t try to pull the not all Xs are Ys on me.
But the simple fact is that religion doesn’t just refer to the BAD OPRESSIVE kind (on which I’d agree with you).
stop. acting. like. all. forms. of. faith. are. evil.
mad annoying.

There’s a difference between being faithful and being religious. Religious is when you adhere to the Religion, thus all that it stands for, which isn’t always amazing sometimes.
I know plenty of people who believe in Jesus, but still can’t get with the misogyny and homophobia in the Bible. I get what you’re saying, but I know how to differentiate between hardened Bible Totters and easygoing Jesus lovers.

But you forget once again that not all RELIGIONS involve the hellfire and hatred you’re talking about. I do mean the entire RELIGIONNNNNN and not just faith.
I’m not saying you don’t know the difference, I’m saying that in this case, a specification of OPPRESSIVE religion needs to be made, because unlike say, white privilege, there is no overall “religious” privilege that all religions get, and many of those smaller religions have been crushed and kept in a corner by the bigger ones, too.

You’re right, the meme could have been more precise, but most people who think of religion usually think of the dominant Abrahamic faiths (Christianity, Islam and Judaism).
Many people who involve themselves in a faith that doesn’t involve a heaven, hell, monotheism, etc. say themselves they don’t refer to it as a religion per se. Like Hinduism and Buddhism for example, it’s more of a philosophy.

No, Hinduism IS a religion.  There are deities that are worshiped and propitiated.  But yeah, this is more to religion than the Big Three.

FYI, being religious doesn’t equal believing in a God, and not all religions are evil. Is that so hard to comprehend? Gosh.

Apparently for evangelical atheist, it’s hard as hell.

yeaaaaahhhh… no.  Fuck this meme.  My secular life is built around respecting people’s personhood, and you *cannot* do that without respecting their choices.  You can disagree.  You can think that their choices are harmful to themselves and others and fight tooth and nail against hatred and bullshit. But you have to respect THEIR CHOICES.
